After a highly defensive game Wednesday night, the Jaguars Varsity Softball team shut down Wakefield with a 4-3 final scoreboard. Starting at as a 0-0 game for the first 2 1/2 innings, the Jags found their tempo and jumped on the board after Mandy Smith led off the 3rd inning with a hit. Foxwell joined her on the bases and stole her way to 2nd, and Heins joined them-- bringing in Mandy for an RBI. Kaitlin Sommer lit up the inning with line drive smack to the outfield, bringing in Lauren and Jesse, and putting the Jags ahead 3-0. After Wakefield started to rack up some bases and some runs, tieing it at 3-3 in the top of the 6th, the Jaguars answered back with a single from Jesse Heins, Sommer joining her on the bases, and both Dana Cook and Ashley Stegemiller executing two beautiful sacrifice bunts in a row moving our runners around and bringing in an RBI for Stegemiller as her bunt brought in the winning run putting the Jags up 4-3.
Staying strong the Jags went 3 up, 3 down in the top of the 7th inning with a beautiful closing play by Meg McCabe, sprinting in and reaching to make the final out with a snag in the outfield.
Next game Thursday against Herndon, followed by Edison on Monday. Both games are away.
