Lady Jags Soccer Powers By Potomac & Wakefield

If the Lady Jags Varsity Soccer Team feared that they would never
break out of their offensive slump, their fears were silenced, and
remained silenced, after two consecutive and decisive wins this past
week against Potomac and Wakefield. Scoring ten goals in two games,
Falls Church appears to have found their stride.

Wednesday night's game versus Potomac proved to be both physical and
exciting. Three yellow cards were awarded during the game: one to
Falls Church and two to Potomac. However, the Lady Jaguars did not let
the fouls or an early one-goal deficit discourage them. They fought
back and eventually sealed the deal with several insurance goals late
in the game to make the score 5-2. Junior Minnie Wodatch earned a
hat-trick, one of her goals off a penalty kick. Sophomore Alison
Gibbons and Senior Debra Cornell also added to the final tally.

Friday night's district game versus Wakefield produced a similar
result, with two major differences: five different players contributed
to the five goals scored by the Jaguars, whose defense also posted a
shut-out. Two goals were scored off corner kicks. Hampered by a steady
downpour, Falls Church was only able to acquire two goals in the first
half due to inaccurate shots, but came out much stronger in the
second, giving Wakefield little room for a comeback. Their domination
was fueled by strong possesion and superior attacking speed.

The Jaguars have a non-district game next week at South Lakes before
they finish out their regular season with games against Yorktown and
Washington & Lee. Falls Church will hope to carry both their offensive
and defensive strength through to the end of the season.
