Lady Jags soccer team plays scoreless tie wih Edison.
The Lady Jaguars Varsity soccer team began district play on Tuesday night, posting a 0-0 tie against a strong Edison team. Under a steady rain, both teams battled it out through regulation and into two overtime periods. Coach Jones finally had a full team with which to work, as many players returned from injury for the district season debut. Perhaps this is what made the difference from previous games, in which Falls Church has been unable to string together 80 full minutes.
While the Jags were unable to score, they were able to create several scoring chances in the waning minutes of both halves. The Eagles dominated the greater part of both overtimes, but a strong defense, led by senior goal keeper Tere Rossi, was able to turn them away time and time again. Overcoming defensive breakdowns that have plagued the team in non-district play was a victory in itself.
The Jaguars are set to face Mount Vernon on Thursday night at home. They will look to continue their defensive efforts and capitalize on more scoring opportunities.
