The Falls Church Girls Varsity soccer team made every scoring opportunity count on Tuesday night versus Fairfax during their first Spring scrimmage. Falls Church had one scoring chance and made it count.
After watching his team record zero shots on goal the first half, Coach Jones made some minor lineup adjustments. One notable change, Minnie Wodatch was pushed up to forward. Alison Gibbons responded by giving Minnie a quick pass at midfield splitting two Fairfax defenders. Minnie took the ball through four Fairfax players and slotted the ball into the near upper ninety from eighteen yards out.
Throughout the game, Falls Church played tight defense over the entire field. Senior Tere Rossi anchored the team from the goal keeper position. She only had to make four saves with Kristin Washco, Casey Davenport, and freshman Bethani Boveri playing solid defense in front of her.
Fairfax had the better of the play for all eighty minutes of the game and controlled the ball with crisp passes and solid possession. But the stingy Falls Church defense did not allow any shots from the middle of the field and Fairfax was unable to convert several crossed balls in the closing minutes of the match.
