Q and A with the Head Coach of the Golf Team, Mike Power

Q1: Coach Power, why do you coach the golf team at FCHS?

A1: I coach the golf team at Falls Church because I love the game. I want to pass on my feelings about the game. I appreciate any student’s desire to learn and compete in golf.

Q2: What if a student has never played golf before? Is there a place for that student-athlete on the golf team representing FCHS?

A2: Golf at Falls Church is open to all skill levels. If a student athlete has the desire to learn and is willing to put the time in practicing, there is a place for him or her at Falls Church.

Q3: What will playing golf teach a student-athlete?

A3: Golf will teach a student athlete that setting individual goals and working toward them will allow them to improve as a player and a person. Your biggest challenge in golf is yourself.

Q4: If a student-athlete wants to talk to you about trying out for the team, how should they contact you?

A4: If a student wants to speak to me about the golf team, I will make time during the week to speak with him or her one-on-one. My office is near the gym and my e-mail address is [email protected]. I look forward to speaking with any interested student athlete.

Q5: What are the goals for the varsity this season?

A5: Our goal for the year is to improve our record by strengthening our individual and team play. I want every member of the golf team to learn how to play for the team. We will work on individual weaknesses, so the team is stronger as a whole.

Q6: Who are your team leaders for this upcoming season?

A6: We have some very strong returning golfers this season. I expect James Hill, T.J. Kenestrick, Zach Cogan and Tim Varnasup to provide leadership for the whole team by setting excellent examples on and off the golf course for our younger team members.
