Girls Indoor Track District Championships Day 1

Our Girls Indoor Track team began Day 1 of competition for the National District Championships held at Episcopal HS on Tuesday, February 5th. The team started off the night with field events and the 4x800m event. The girls were ranked 2nd in the 4x800m relay event, and event they placed 3rd in last year. The team started out with sophomore first leg, Riley Louden, who handed off to team captain, junior Audrey May, in 3rd place. Audrey took off in a mad dash, putting the team in 1st place. She then passed off to fellow junior and team captain, Valerie Thibeault, who kept our 1st place lead. Our last leg, sophomore Kim Bruyette, kept things interesting as Stuart came close on her heels as Yorktown and Edison also had very fast legs to come close to catching up. Kim darted out ahead to easily win and become District Championships. This was a huge win for them, as they have struggled to just make the top 3 teams to advance to Regionals. Riley Louden also competed in Pole Vault being the sole competitor. She cleared opening height at 6 feet. Then she easily cleared 6'6", and closed out the event to clear 7 feet. She is now a district champion in the event and broke the school record that was set at 6'6". These gilrs will now advance to the Northern Region Championships to be held at George Mason University on February 23rd. Great job to our Lady Jaguars! The running events will resume on Friday at TJMS at 5:20pm.
